Are implants right for you?

by | May 1, 2015 | General

As dentists, our goal is to give our patients the care and support they need to keep their natural teeth for a lifetime. However, accidents or other complications do happen. When a tooth is missing, it’s important to find the best solution for you. Missing teeth can make ordinary tasks such as talking and eating a new and uncomfortable challenge. In the past, bridges and dentures had been the only options available to replace missing teeth. Today, dental implants present another alternative.
A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed in bone to replace the root of a missing tooth.  Once the bone heals around the implant, your dentist is able to place a crown over an attachment which is secured to the implant to replace the missing tooth. This process can take 6-12 months to complete. Although this may seem like a long time, dental implants offer many advantages over traditional dentures and bridges.
  • Implants look and feel like your own teeth.
  • Implants allow you to speak without worrying that they might fall out.
  • Implants can improve the way your existing dentures work.
  • With good care, implants can last a lifetime.

Implants can restore proper function better than other options because they feel and work like teeth.
